So I had to take a hiatus....had people in town and a terrible hangover.  Back at it, today is Grape!

6 oz red seedless grapes (117 cal.)
1 scoop protein powder (80 cal.)
1/2 cup almond milk (45 cal.)
1/2 tsp coconut oil (20 cal.)

No picture since my cell phone has kicked the bucket and I'm waiting for the replacement.

Day 10 = Epic Fail!

I love pears, one of my favorite fruits....but they do NOT make a good smoothie!  I'll give you the recipe but don't suggest making it.

5.6 oz fresh bartlett pear (90 cal.)
1 scoop protein powder (80 cal. )
1/2 cup almond milk (45 cal.)
1/2 tsp coconut oil (20 cal.)
5 ice cubes

Total calories = 235

I only ended up having about 5 sips before I couldn't take it and had to throw it out.  It had a very musky smell and taste that just made my stomach turn. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

Day 9

Cantaloupe day...

10.2 oz cantaloupe (101 cal.)
1 scoop protein powder (80 cal.)
1 tsp coconut oil (40 cal.)
1/2 cup almond milk (45 cal.)
5.3 ounces honey flavored greek yogurt (120 cal.)
4 ice cubes

Total calories = 386

This was really good.....I wasn't sure if I was going to like pureed cantaloupe but it came out yummy!

Day 8....and a weigh in!

Today is Orange Pineapple

7.8 oz fresh pineapple (112 cal.)
4.8 oz orange (65 cal.)
1 scoop powder (80 cal.)
1/2 cup almond milk (45 cal.)
1 tsp coconut oil (40 cal.)
4 ice cubes

Total calories = 342

As far as the weigh-in....I'm down 4 pounds.  I have been pretty good at making sure not to change the rest of what I eat or make any changes in physical activity because I really want to see accurate results as to the effects the smoothies make.

Day 7

Today is Strawberry Blackberry Raspberry Blueberry (wow, that's a mouthful!)

12 raspberries (12 cal.)
24 blackberries (72 cal.)
23 blueberries (23 cal.)
3 strawberries (16 cal.)
1/2 cup almond milk (45 cal.)
1 scoop protein powder (80 cal.)
1/2 tsp coconut oil (20 cal.)
5 ice cubes

Total calories = 268

I was pretty excited about this one since I love berries.  It wasn't bad but something in it gave off a bitter taste, I suspect it was the seeds from all the different berries.  I'm thinking I should have added a little Nutella to cut it.

Day 5

Ok, so I have to admit that I'm pretty pumped about today's smoothie.....Strawberry Banana Nutella.
It's not light on the calories but oh so worth it!!

3 large strawberries (18 cal.)
1/2 banana (53 cal.)
1/2 cup almond milk (45 cal.)
1 scoop protein powder (80 cal.)
1 tsp coconut oil (40 cal.)
2 tbsp Nutella (200 cal.)
3 ice cubes

Total calories = 436

I added a lot of the Nutella but I wanted to be sure that I could taste it, it worked!

This might be the best smoothie yet!!!

 Before....
 ...and after
Oh, and for anyone wondering why I'm using coconut oil, you can read all about it's magical properties here.  It's nature's cure-all!

Day 4

Happy Easter!
Today is Orange Apricot day.

1 large navel orange (60 cal.)
1 tbsp Apricot preserves (50 cal.)
1 scoop protein powder (80 cal.)
1/2 tsp coconut oil (20 cal.)
1/2 cup almond milk (45 cal.)
3 ice cubes

Total calories = 255

It was a little thinner than I like and quite sweet (almost too sweet) but very tasty overall!  Maybe next time I'll only use a tsp of the preserves.

Day 3

So today I tried using the frozen packs of fruit you can buy in the grocery store.  I purchased the Publix brand of frozen mixed berries.  I decided that since they are frozen I would skip the ice and it worked wonderfully.

1 cup frozen mixed berries (70 cal.)
1 cup almond milk (90 cal.)
1 scoop protein powder (80 cal.)
1 tsp coconut oil (40 cal.)

Total calories = 280

I started with only 1/2 cup of the almond milk and realized when I turned the blender on that it simply wasn't enough liquid.  I added another 1/4 cup and then a second 1/4 cup and it finally looked right.  Success, the perfect smoothie consistency!

Suggestions

Any comments, suggestions, and recipes would be greatly appreciated!  :)

The beginning...

So today I have decided to start my smoothie diet by replacing one meal per day with a home-made smoothie.  After being a surrogate and giving birth to the child in November I finally decided to get serious about losing this "baby weight."  Then I remembered my history of not following through on things and came up with the conclusion that if I start a blog about this diet I'll feel responsible to post daily and this will in turn force me to stick to my diet.

My thought it to post my recipe along with any alterations I want to make after tasting it along with a picture or two.  Being a normal woman of sane mind I will not be posting my actual weight on here but I will keep you up to date as far as pounds lost.

I actually had my first smoothie yesterday when my friend and I decided to make some at her house.  After going to buy a blender and gathering all the necssesary ingredients we made our smoothies.  Mine had strawberries, blackberries and bananas in it.  We used almond milk and protein powder.  I didn't write down the exact measurements but I did realize that a whole banana is way too much banana for me!  It was good but all I could taste was the banana.

Today's recipe is:

3 large strawberries (approx. 18 calories)
1 large navel orange (approx. 100 calories)
1 scoop of protein powder (80 calories)
1 tbsp coconut oil (120 calories)
1/2 cup almond milk (45 calories)
13 ice cubes

Total calories = 363
This made a LARGE glass!

After tasting I will definitely use less ice and coconut oil.  Too much ice made it a little too cold and too liquid.  I like my smoothies a little on the thicker side.  I don't taste much fruit which is odd because they were both very full bodied on their own.

Here's the smoothie itself.  I need to learn how to turn pictures!

This is to give you a sense of the size of the fruits.
